Kick Catch and Takedown

As the opponent throws a straight kick, the soldier moves slightly to the side and catches the kick by looping an arm under the kicking leg.

The soldier then steps diagonally forwards and hooks the opponent’s other leg away, driving forwards and down with his free arm and lifting up the kicking leg as high as he can. A very hard fall will result.

Roundhouse Kick Catch

The soldier moves either forwards to shorten the kick and diagonally away from it, reducing the force it develops. The arms are also used to jam the kick, taking the force on the upper arm rather than the body. An arm looped under the kicking leg is then lifted up and dragged in the direction the kick was originally travelling. Simultaneously, the soldier turns in the same direction and ‘throws’ the leg past him, dumping the opponent to the ground.
